Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed #1) by Lara Adrian

He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.
Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands. Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .(Synopsis from Goodreads)

Kiss of Midnight is the first in the Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian. This book is currently featured as the book of the month for the Paranormal and Urban Fantasy group on Goodreads. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fast paced novel.   Adrian delivers a steamy, suspenseful paranormal romance that will leave you wanting more.

Lucan Thorpe is the leader of the Breed Warriors, a group of vampires sworn to protect their kind by handling Rogue vampires who have gone mad from bloodlust.  Lucan is sexy, troubled and unwilling to bind himself to anyone.  He has a chance encounter with Gabrielle Maxwell, a talented, beautiful photographer who can’t understand what anyone sees in her photos.

They meet at a new night club. Gabrielle has been dragged their by her friends to celebrate her successful art show.  Upon entering she senses something is off about the place. She feels someone watching her and gazes across the room to lock eyes with Lucan.  A noise down the other end of the bar draws her attention and that fast Lucan is gone.  Outside the club she witnesses a crime that unknowingly puts her in danger.  As a result of this chance encounter both of their lives will be forever changed.

The tale Adrian weaves is suspenseful. The history behind the vampires is unique and I liked the way she introduces the rest of the players in this series.  Kiss of Midnight unravels smoothly and we are given glimpses of the past and hints of the future.   At its core it’s a story of good verse evil, love, loyalty, betrayal and loss.  This was a great weekend read and I plan on reading the next book in this series.  Fans of paranormal romance and suspense will enjoy Kiss of Midnight. There are currently nine novels published in this series. The next book is entitled, Kiss of Crimson

I gave this book 4 coffee cups out of 5.

I won the first 3 books but haven't started them yet, not my genre of choice. I have heard each book is about a new character.

Sounds like a great start to a series. I love suspense so hopefully I will enjoy it.

This sounds good, it's all the stuff I usually like: vampires, urban setting, and of course a good romance.

Also, I love your blog! You got yourself a new follower!

This series reminded me of J.R Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood! I've only read the first two.
Good review :-)

I sadly couldn't finish this one! It wasn't even bad, it was just the fact that in the middle I was still not invested enough in the story to want to get back to it and it caused me to take a break from reading since I kept postponing reading. ;/ But I know many love it and I'm glad you enjoyed it. :D
