My review of book one Until Next Time

The Beloved Angel-Warrior Team from Until Next Time Returns!
When Matt and Emily are sent on their second mission they have no idea how truly dark human nature can become...
Emily never wanted to face humans again. With the heartache that went on down below, she’s still trying to figure out how to save souls that don’t deserve saving. The only one she wants to see again is Jason - the young man she fell in love with who became the soulmate she simply can’t forget...
Matt was trained to protect and defend the souls down below. Longing to feel the heartfelt emotions that come from being human, Matt wants nothing more than to have just one life - one chance - to live and love the girl of his dreams...
The powerful team find themselves in a brand new century, living in the Gilded Age of New York City. Emily takes over the body of Anya, a young Russian girl who arrives on Ellis Island after a hideous tragedy. There she meets up with a strangely familiar young man by the name of Drew Parrish, who helps Anya survive in an unknown world of luxury, snobbery and…obsession.
What Anya’s inner angel doesn’t know is that the soul she loves is also back. This time around Jason goes by the name of Max Carrow. Once a quiet and kind boy, he’s now part of the ‘Four Hundred Club,’ and wants nothing more than to be among the most admired as he climbs the shaky ladder of society’s elite.
As two worlds merge, Emily and Matt struggle under the weight of their “Gilded Wings.” Not only will they have to figure out who they should fight to save, but they must also face a romantic choice that could destroy them both.

Team Jason vs. Team Matt
Who’s the Perfect Guy?

At the risk of losing my life, I have to say this… At the beginning a huge favorite, I could not understand the ‘Team Jacob/Team Edward’ thing. I mean, everyone knew Bella was going to pick the vamp from the second she sat down beside him in class. Even though, frankly, Jacob seemed like the far better choice. (I know, I will be putting up electrified fence around the house when this blog appears).

The basic definition of a soulmate is a ‘lifelong partner predetermined by God and believed to be the person with whom one has a deep, unexplainable feeling for.’ Yet, from a different POV, it was Plato who presented a story about soulmates saying that humans originally had four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. Zeus feared their power so much that he split them all in half, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the ‘other half’ to complete them. See that? The story can go from sweet to icky in about a second and a half depending on what history you’re into. There’s even a statement that says soulmates should never be together as more than partners because they need each other SO much that they can cancel each other out, meaning one of them will kill the other.

So can there be two soulmates? One that is predetermined by God, and one who completes you, for lack of a better term, but the love is so overwhelming that you could die from it?

Jason and Matthew are a different sort of ‘choice’ when it comes to romantic triangles; they do not fall into the categories of one being destined to be a friend while the other is destined to win the girl. In fact, either of them could be Emily’s soulmate depending on how things end up.

So, what are the benefits of Jason? Jason is the tall, dark and handsome one with the big brown eyes that are filled with love. He is protective, sexy - basically the guy you would chase down the street in order to nab him. In Until Next Time, Emily found herself in love with Jason. A first love that almost tore her apart when she had to perish in order to do her job and leave him behind.

What are the benefits of Matthew? Well, he’s the cute, funny one. He’s the one you would believe will be just the friend, BUT there’s more. He has the sarcasm, the love for his partner, and the ability to laugh, cry, or fight in front of her. Yet he found himself turning down a slightly darker path in Until Next Time because he saw his partner heading toward a human and leaving him behind.

With Gilded Wings, these two young men find themselves in very different places. Not only has Matthew grown from his first experience and has become more of a warrior (which is his predetermined job), but he has also found a way to turn on that ‘romantic’ side of him, basically confusing Emily’s heart.

Jason, in the Gilded Age of NYC, finds himself on the opposite side of the fence. Once upon a time he was from the family of ‘servants,’ working for the rich man who was beyond evil. This time around, Jason is the wealthy one who has it all…except for the young immigrant girl who he finds himself head over heels for even though she’s ‘unacceptable’ to society.

It will be interesting to see how readers view these two potential soulmates when Gilded Wings has been seen. And whether or not, in the end, the theory of having more than one soulmate could end up to be fact.

Until Next Time Everybody,
Amy

 Read-Along :

“This way,” she said, pulling Gregori through the door to stand in yet another line. Her stomach screamed at her as she watched rings of succulent steam curl in the air over metal pans filled with hot food. Anya practically dove for a tray, as she moved forward in the line and watched in awe as piles of steaming vegetables, meat, rice and cool pieces of fruit, were placed on their dishes. Gregori’s mouth gaped open as he accepted a cup of milk from one of the smiling ladies who stood behind the counter. Anya took a cup of water and a steaming mug of hot tea back with her to the table. Walking carefully, she tried not to stumble with the plates of goodies that she cradled precariously in her arms.
Gregori ran ahead and picked out two seats on a wooden picnic bench and sat down, reaching up to help Anya with the food.
His eyes were wide. “Look, Anya. Look at...all of this.”
“This is very generous,” she remarked, staring at the rows and rows of eager, new Americans feeding their starving stomachs.
Gregori began shoveling the food into his mouth. Anya grabbed his hand. “Slow down. You haven’t eaten in a long time; you need to chew slowly.”

A great guest post! This series sounds wonderful & I love the covers.

Love triangles make me squirm but I have read a few lately that we're really well done; I just prefer there to be a clear choice from the onset.

Thank-you for sharing :)
